Mohd Shahjahan is a self-confident Bangladeshi entrepreneur, who has achieved the distinction of being well-established in the business arena of Oman, one of the countries in the Middle East. His business success has not only honored him, but also brightened the image of Bangladesh. He is the founder and co-founder of ABROAD and Rashed Industries Ltd in Oman. This entrepreneurial businessman is the founding director of NRB Global Bank Ltd, one of the fourth generation banks in Bangladesh.
Mohd Shahjahan, an expatriate from Oman, was born on September 8, 1958 in an aristocratic business family in Gashchi village of Raozan upazila in Chittagong, Bangladesh. His father’s name is late Abdul Haq Matubbar and mother late Nafisa Begum. From an early age, meritorious Mohd Shahjahan completed his SSC in 1973 from Gashchi High School at his village and his HSC degree in 1975 from Rangunia College. Then, he admitted to the same college to pursue graduation. In that turbulent youthful moment, he thinks that millions of young people are suffering from unemployment after finishing their studies in the country. Maybe his fate has the same consequences. With this thinking, he migrated to Oman in 1978.
In Oman, he worked for two and a half years. This talented and agile young man thought that it would be possible to change own destiny doing job. But the destiny of a lot of people in the country and abroad can be changed if he could become an entrepreneur. It was with this in mind that young Mohd Shahjahan set up an engineering workshop in 1981. Thus, he began his journey. His both companies ABROAD and Rashad Industries Ltd are involved in mainstream trade and commerce in Oman. He is involved in building construction, road construction and real estate business there.
Mohd Shahjahan is old but still young in action. Mohd Shahjahan, who is full of youthful vigor, has not only confined himself to the construction business, but has also devoted himself to the real estate business. He thinks that people can also benefit through business. Through him many expatriates especially Bangladeshis have been able to establish their own houses and flats in Oman.
This enterprising man always thinks about the development of Bangladesh. He thinks, No matter how good we are in exile, our roots lies in Bangladesh. Our relatives and neighbors are in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is also our homeland. Therefore, expatriates should also have a role in the development of Bangladesh. That is why he and his family send remittances to Bangladesh.
Thus, the patriot Mohd Shahjahan, his wife Shaheda Nur Begum and his brother’s family sent more remittances and he was selected as ‘CIP’ by the Bangladesh government in 2016. He is proud of getting such an honor by the Government of Bangladesh. “Our whole family is CIP status holder. It is a proud moment for us,” he says. At present, about 6 lakh Bangladeshis are working in Oman.
Mohd Shahjahan is closely associated with the banking and insurance sector in Bangladesh. He is the Founding Director of the country’s top NRB Global Bank Limited. He thinks that this bank has not only provided employment to many educated youth of the country but also there has been a great dynamism in the business trade, with the creation and industrialization of many entrepreneurs with the help of banking investments. As a result, the bank is getting an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the employment and development of economy largely. He is also an entrepreneurial figure in the insurance sector of Bangladesh. He is the Alternative Director of Best Life Insurance Limited. His wife Mrs. Shaheda Nur Begum is its director.
This entrepreneur businessman has also several businesses in Bangladesh. He is the Chairman of Rashad Industries Ltd., Director of H.N. Auto and Non-Executive Director of Best Life Insurance Ltd. He is the owner of a well-known CNG pump. He is also the Chairman of a luxurious resort in Chattogram. These initiatives have provided job opportunities for the local nationals. He is investing in Bangladesh out of deep patriotism and love for the people of the country.
Mohd Shahjahan not only has a business on Real Estates and constructions in Oman but has extended his business in Bangladesh. He is the owner one of the luxurious holiday resorts in Cox’s Bazar and owns a well known CNG pump in Chittagong. This initiative has provided job opportunities for the local nationals.
This enterprising industrial personality also thinks about the development of the country’s tourism industry. He thinks that if the beauty of our country can be presented to foreigners, it is possible to earn a lot of income through this tourism. This requires creating opportunities for them to be in a safe and healthy position. With this in mind, he has founded ‘Muscat Holiday Resort’ in Cox’s Bazar. It is one of the most important and safe resorts in the country. The resort has already gained acceptance among Travellers from home and abroad. The tourists from home and foreign are fascinated by the hospitality of this resort.
Mohd Shahjahan, a kind and humble man, is blessed with two daughters. His eldest daughter Umme Habiba is a doctor by profession and his youngest daughter, Umme Sumaiyah, is doing her PhD in Corporate Law and Human Rights in England.
Mohd Shahjahan always prioritizes time and significantly contributed to the society. He has founded schools, mosque, madrasah, and orphanage in his locality in Bangladesh. He used to helping the needy people in his area. There is no end to his excitement about the future of Bangladesh. He says Bangladesh is currently climbing the ladder of development and the expatriates have a great contribution behind this. The current government is also giving a lot of respect to the expatriates which inspires us, he says. He believes if corruption and irregularities are stopped in the country, Bangladesh would be able to gain the status of a developed country very soon.
