Syed Nazrul Islam is the Managing Director of Well Designers Limited, a sister concern of the renowned ‘Well Group’. He initiated the Garments Division of his family owned Well Group in Chottogram, when he returned after completing his Masters in Business Administration from New Port University at Bengaluru, India in the year 2000.
He started with only 150 sets of machines and today he has more than 4000 machines in 6 RMG factories exporting 3.50 million dollars worth of readymade garments every month. He is doing business with the world renowned Walmart, C&A, Europostal, H&M, TEMA etc.
Syed Nazrul Islam served as the Director of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association for the term 2011-12. In addition to this he also served as the Director –in-charge of Chittagong Port and Customs Standing Committee. He is also the lifetime member of Chittagong Club Ltd., Bhatiari Golf and Country Club, Chottogram Mother and Child Hospital and Chittagong Diabetic Association.
Nazrul Islam has travelled extensively for his work and thus has set foot on USA, Europe, Canada, Australia, China, Thailand and Turkey. A mentionable trip was the one he took to accompany the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2012 to attend the UNA program in USA. He has been involved with various activities of BGMEA, the apex body of Garment owners.
Syed nazrul Islam is the younger brother of Abdus Salam, the Founder Chairman of Well Group and the current Chairman of CDA. He helps orphans and the needy from the fund reserved in the ‘Mabia Rashidia Foundation’ created in the name of his parents. The Foundation works to promote education of talented but needy students and treatment of almost 5000 people annually.
According to a press release, Syed Nazrul Islam has been elected as the first Vice Chairman of BGMEA. He mentioned that currently there is no dissatisfaction among the RMG workers but a lot of orders had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. “The second wave of Corona virus will also effect the Industry if not taken care of properly. I intend to work unitedly with the BGMEA family to keep our work orders intact” mentioned Syed Nazrul Islam.
